Your notes, in every context.

Write your notes like a document, structure them like an outline. Every note belongs to several threads at once: a project, a person, a day. Pull a thread and you get its document, ready to edit.

Free, no account needed. Optional end-to-end encrypted sync.

Idea: a multi-view tool

The highlighted note sits under a heading tagged #alpha, mentions @paul and was written today: it shows in all three views, each time in its place, with its parents in grey. Edit it in one, it changes in all.

Embrace chaos

Write first, sort never. There is no main view to keep tidy: a project, a person, a day, a search are the same notes seen from another angle, and you can edit them from any of them.

Notes tag themselves

Write in the #alpha view and the note is tagged #alpha automatically, and filed under today. Tag a node @marie and everything nested under it is tagged too.

Private by design

Local by default. Without an account, your notes are saved in your browser and nowhere else. Heddo installs like an app and works offline.

Encrypted before it leaves. Turn on sync and every note is encrypted on your device, with a key only your passphrase unlocks. Our server stores your notes but cannot read them.

Nothing to track you. No e-mail, just a username. No analytics, no ads, no cookies, no third-party scripts.

Under the hood

AES-256 encryption and Argon2id key derivation, run in your browser. Your passphrase never leaves it, and your notes leave it only encrypted.

What the server sees: the shape of your outline and when it changes, never your text, tags, people or dates. Lose your passphrase and your synced notes cannot be recovered, by anyone. The notes on your devices stay yours.

Built for speed

Every gesture is designed to get a thought down before it fades, and Heddo stays fast as your notes grow, even with thousands of them.

  • Nothing to file: the view you write in tags the note, the day dates it.
  • Keyboard first: Enter, Tab, Alt/⌥ ↑↓, Ctrl/⌘ K to jump to any tag, unlimited undo.
  • Slash commands: / for headings, to-dos, dates, tags and links.
  • Markdown as you type: [ ] becomes a task, #date: opens a calendar.
  • Views as queries: #alpha (@marie or @paul) not #done, saved for later.
  • Several panes side by side, each on its own view.
  • Whole branches: multi-select, drag, copy and paste them in one go.
  • Local first: nothing you do waits on a server, and it all works offline.

Your notes, in and out

  • Bring them in from Workflowy, Dynalist, Logseq or any OPML file.
  • Take them out at any time: all your notes as JSON, any view as a Markdown document.
  • Snapshots on your device: one a day, 30 kept, and one before sync or an import replaces anything.

Questions

Do I need an account?

No. Open Heddo and start writing: everything is saved in your browser. An account is only for syncing your notes between devices.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. Open heddo.app in Safari or Chrome and add it to your home screen: it runs like an app, offline. With sync, the same notes are on your Mac and your iPhone.

How do I get sync?

Encrypted sync is in early access and needs an invitation code. Write to contact@heddo.app to ask for one.

What can the server see?

Which notes exist, where they sit in your outline, when they change and roughly how long they are. Not their text, tags, people or dates: those are encrypted on your device before they are sent.

What if I forget my passphrase?

Nobody can decrypt your synced notes without it, us included. The notes already on your devices stay there, and you can export them or start a new account with them.

What if Heddo shuts down?

Your notes live on your devices, not only on our server. Heddo keeps working offline, and you can export everything as JSON or Markdown whenever you like.

Who makes Heddo?

An independent developer, on a non-commercial basis. Heddo is free; see the legal notice and privacy page.

Start writing. Nothing to sign up for.

Your notes stay in your browser until you choose to sync them, encrypted, to your other devices.
